Efter nattens erfarenhet kan jag säga följande.
Köp inte H16 - kanske jag fick ett dåligt ex (Startlight erkänner det), men kylningen är kass till ett Kodak chip.

Pratade med Hans på Teleskop Service idag. Konklution: Jag får en Atik 4022 av Hans istället.
Hoppas den är bätte ;-)

Dock skall både Starlight och Hans ha kredit för sitt ärliga och snabba tillmötesgående - förstklassigt!

P.S Jag sågar inte Starlight, deras sony chip kameror är säkert förfarande bäst i klassen. Men större chip från Kodak behöver en annan hårdvara.
Om Starlight fixar en ordentlig reglrerad kylning är nog deras H16 minst lika bra som någon annans.
Terje nämde lite om bl.a hårdvara i tidigare tråd. Självklart är den minst lika viktig som CCD chippet. QSI, som jag tänkte köpa från början - men som blev på tok för dyr med ny dollarkurs, har en helt annan kylning och tolerans på hårdvaran. Inte konstigt att dom får bäst kritik och ståtar med grymma bias och dark frames. D.S

Hi Mattias,

Just got back in from shopping and saw your message. I'm very sorry to hear that, although I can understand it, based on the H16 issues. I had just about decided to send you a new camera, as there is clearly something not quite right with that one, but it seems that I'm too late! :-(
"We have an Atik 4000 here and I made quite a few tests on it a couple of months ago. The 'regulated' cooling is not all that it seems - the peltier module is undersized and operating inefficiently, so that the temperature reading is not reliable. We measured the CCD temperature by soldering a thermistor onto the chip pins and found that it had difficulty maintaining more than 20C of temperature reduction. The temperature reading is from the top surface of the cooler and that reads a lot less than the actual CCD chip. The H16 achieves -35 below ambient because it has an optimised cooler and I still say that dark frames with this are neither necessary or desirable. The problem is that the hot pixels will begin to saturate in only a few 10s of seconds exposure and they become so non-linear that the darks do not subtract them cleanly. It's much better to use the 'Bad pixel map' and so avoid adding the extra readout noise from dark frame subtraction. Temperature regulation becomes almost irrelevant when you do this and maximum cooling is all that you really want. You might want to chat with Dietmar Hager in Austria - he has wonderful results from his H16 and is a great source of processing advice http://www.stargazer-observatory.com/ .

The readout noise on the Atik will be somewhat higher (about 10% greater) and the readout time is about double - although not necessarily a big issue. By the way - the H16 will have a KAI4022 fitted - we started using them about 6 months ago.

If you want to try another camera, the offer is still open, but good luck with your decision whatever it turns out to be.

Anders (StarSoft) - jag tackar dig att jag tog steget och bytte. Nu håller vi tummerna för att den är bättre... annars vet jag inte vad jag gör.
Efter en koll på nätet inser jag dock att jag inte är den förste som istället skulle valt en tempreglerad kamera.
Faktum är att jag trodde jag gjorde det med H16 - deras formulering är väl lurig :-)
